My husband and I would occasionally buy our supplements from a supplement store near us, but now we buy all our supplements from iHerb. There are a few reasons for that, which I will talk about in this iHerb review. Please keep in mind that I’m from Canada, so I can only speak from a Canadian view of iHerb.
The Biggest Benefit Is Selection Of Supplements
If you need supplements, herbs, bath products, beauty products, sports products, baby products, pet products, home products, or grocery items, iHerb has a large selection of stuff.
As far as supplements go, the only supplement that I couldn’t find on iHerb is the VegeDog Supplement. Other than that, I have found everything I’ve looked for on the site.
This is so much better than going into a supplement store to see if they have something, find out they don’t, and then have to go to another store and repeat the process.
Just the other day we went into a supplement store where a naturopath works and asked about the monolaurin we get from iHerb. The naturopath admitted he had never heard of that supplement before and they didn’t stock it, which blew our minds.
I’m sure there are some things other than VegeDog that iHerb doesn’t have, but we haven’t come across it yet.
Bottom line: The variety at iHerb saves us time as we no longer need to go from store to store looking for supplements we want. We can order everything we need from one place.
The Prices Are Cheaper
We’ve compared the prices on iHerb to the prices in our local stores, and iHerb is cheaper. Even when compared to Superstore, which is a store that usually offers value in their food, supplements, and other products.
Obviously, we haven’t checked every store out there, so you may be able to find your supplements cheaper somewhere else. But, for us, it’s not even worth looking anymore. We trust that iHerb’s prices are good.
Plus, they often have deals where you can buy two and save a few bucks.
Finding Vegan Supplements Is Easy
This is a big one for us. It’s a pain in the ass to try to find vegan supplements in stores. There’s a lot of searching and reading involved.
On iHerb, you just type in ‘vegan’ before the name of the supplement you are looking for.
For example, if I want to find vegan vitamin D, I can search for that and get a bunch of results.
Most of the time, the product description will say vegan in it when you search like this. If not, I highly recommend you still read the ingredient list to make sure because you don’t want to order something that’s not vegan, wait a few weeks to realize it, and then have to reorder and wait another few weeks. We did this with a B12 supplement. I didn’t read the ingredients on iHerb before I ordered it, and it was a huge disappointment when we got it in the mail and I actually read the ingredients and found out that there was milk in it.
Thankfully, iHerb makes it easy to read the ingredient list. Just click on the ingredient pictures offered and then hover over or click on the bigger picture to zoom in. (Below is just a screenshot, you can physically check out what I mean for yourself by clicking here and going to the left of the page to the item images.)
Customer Service Has Been Good To Us
There has been one incident where they sent us the wrong product. It was so frustrating, to say the least. But, after a quick chat with customer service, I was able to get the product I had originally ordered delivered free of charge, and I got to keep the wrong product that was delivered instead of having to send it back.
The big issue with that was that I had to wait another 10 days before I got what I actually wanted.
But that’s only happened one time in all of our orders and it cost them money for their mistake, so I have faith that their employees packaging are being more diligent when doing so. Of course, there is still the risk of receiving the wrong order.
Bottom line: Customer service is easy to get a hold of and they are fair when they screw up.
The Loyalty And Rewards Credit
Another thing we like about iHerb is the loyalty credit. Every time you order from iHerb, you get some loyalty money which gets applied against your next purchase. I think it’s about 10%.
For our last order of $96.45, we got a $9.15 credit which will go against our next order.
There is also a rewards credit where you can send out your link and get credit from any order placed from a new customer using that special link, and the person who buys will get money off their first order. It’s a win-win situation.
If you are a new iHerb customer and want to get a discount on your first purchase, you can use my link here.
You can also share a special link for iHerb brands and get a 10% rewards credit. This is the page that the link will take others to if you share it.
This is good if you are a blogger or vlogger, but it’s also good if you just want to share with friends and family so that they can save, and you can earn some extra money for your next purchase at the same time. There’s no extra cost to them. It would be just like they are ordering if they found iHerb on their own, except you will both get an extra reward.
Bottom line: You can save even more money with the loyalty and rewards credit.
No Shipping Cost If You Order Over A Specific Amount
We have never had to pay for shipping because we always order over the amount required. I think it’s $40 USD. But you don’t have to worry because you will be able to see the cost in your cart and know exactly what it is going to cost what.
As you can see in the following screenshot, we do have to pay Duties & Taxes, as we are in Canada.
For us, they always seem to ship from California, but they have other distribution centers throughout the USA and apparently one in Incheon, Korea.
Shipping time for us generally takes around 10 days from ordering. The good thing is that iHerb allows you to track your package right from the start. The bad thing is that it often takes a long time to get going anywhere. It seems to sit still for a few days. Not sure if that’s the case or if you just can’t see the movement because it’s not worth updating for them.
You can click on the tracking number link (I blocked that out in case some savvy person tries to reroute my iHerb order!) and follow your order as it moves around.
Bottom line: Shipping is free when you purchase over a specific amount, but you might have to pay for Duties and Taxes. And, the delivery date can vary depending on how fast everything is moving, but we always expect it to be at least 10 days, so we order well in advance when we need something.
Other Benefits Of IHerb
- There are reviews from customers who have purchased the products. There are a ton of reviews on iHerb, so these reviews can help you in your buying decisions.
- You can ask questions about any product on the site directly on the product page of the product you are interested in.
- IHerb has detailed descriptions of products, including expiration date and other details you may want to know. It’s all right there for you to see.
An Important IHerb Tip
At the top of the screen, you can change the country to match your currency. Do this right from the start so that you see prices in your currency. Prices shown as you browse will be in the currency selected.
I’ve used the US one a few times and thought my total was going to be less than it actually was. I thought I was getting a large savings, and it was a big disappointment when I checked out and realized what my true cost actually was.
